Luxembourg, 15 February 2022 (TDI): European Union (EU) and Colombia are on one page to conserve nature. Both will cooperate for nature, the environment, as well as climate change.

European Union and Colombia decided to fight against climate change for the environment, nature, and especially for oceans. EU and Colombia have a great collaboration to tackle environmental changes.

Both European Union and Colombia will share information, especially on oceans, and the environment in Colombia and European states. The two entities collaborate against deforestation, circular economy, sustainable blue economy, and plastic pollution.

Agreement between EU and Colombia

Nowadays a high-level official’s delegation from Colombia is visiting Brussels. They met with European Union President Ursula Von der Leyen. In this meeting, they signed an agreement.

According to this agreement, European Union will cooperate in the fight against environmental pollution. The high-level official’s delegation is represented by the Colombian President. Iván Duque, President of Colombia will also meet other high officials of the European Union.

Colombia is an indispensable partner in the fight against climate change and in the EU’s action for the environment. The EU and Colombia will work hand in hand on the green agenda and today’s declaration is another important step in that direction.

Whilst signing the agreement on behalf of the EU with Colombia, Virginijus Sinkevičius, the European Commissioner for Environment, Oceans, and Fisheries said that global goals can only be achieved if countries around the world work together.

Today’s declaration between the EU and Colombia is one step further in the needed green transformation. Both partners want an ambitious global biodiversity agreement.

Background

Today’s declaration establishes an EU-Colombia Dialogue on Environment, Climate Action, and Sustainable Development. It follows a previous milestone of last September when the EU and Colombia signed a Memorandum of Understanding to search for available translations of the agenda of enhanced political and sectoral dialogue and cooperation for the next decade.

The visit further strengthened the relationship with Colombia, a key like-minded partner. By working together, the partners intend to lead by example and actively promote the implementation of global environmental commitments regionally and globally.
