New York, 21 September 2022 (TDI): The High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the EU, Josep Borrell participated in the opening of the 77th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
The European Union is also represented by the President of the European Council Charles Michel, and Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission at the UNGA session.

EU’s Agenda for UNGA 77
During the week, the High Representative of the EU, Josep Borrell will also chair the Informal EU Foreign Ministers Meeting.
Along with these, he will host the Western Balkans Lunch and participate in the 12th Global Counterterrorism Forum Ministerial Plenary, and the GCC-EU Ministerial meeting.
Moreover, He will attend the Transatlantic Foreign Ministers Dinner that will be hosted by the U.S. Secretary of State.
In addition, the EU high representative will have also several bilateral meetings with leaders from Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Southern Neighbourhood, and Latin America.
During the session, the EU’s priorities will be focused on upholding the UN Charter and the rule of law. EU leaders will also highlight the Russia-Ukraine conflict which is emerging as a new threat to international peace and security.
Therefore, the EU leaders will seize every chance to emphasize the binding nature of the UN Charter as a whole.
It will emphasize the universality of the UN’s basic ideals and promote peace and security, human rights, gender equality, and equal rights for both large and small states.
Moreover, the EU will also actively collaborate with the UN’s Global Crisis Response Group on Food, Energy, and Finance.
EU will also emphasize investing more in strengthening global health security and preparedness by highlighting the COVID-19 pandemic consequences. The leaders will also discuss pollution, climate change, and biodiversity loss.
To make the multilateral system for the future and effectively fulfill shared global obligations, the EU will also work to take advantage of the historic opportunity presented by the UN process on “Our Common Agenda”.

To enable a better response to complicated global crises, the leaders of the European Union will discuss constructive measures for a New Agenda for Peace, a Global Digital Compact, and an Emergency Platform.
