Islamabad (TDI): Ethiopia’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Dr. Jemal Beker, visited the headquarters of the OIC Ministerial Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH) on Friday.
During the visit, he held a productive meeting with the Coordinator General of COMSTECH, Dr. Iqbal Choudhary.
The focus of the meeting was on strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation in areas of science, technology, education, health, and tech transfer, between Ethiopia and COMSTECH.
Regarding his visit and constructive talk with the Coordinator General, the Ethiopian Ambassador noted: “I am very grateful to His Excellency for his keen interest and vision in knowledge sharing as well to address various challenges. Excellency, I am looking forward to substantial growth in our bilateral cooperation under your leadership.”

Ethiopia opened its Embassy in Pakistan in 2022 and since then, it has actively engaged in a spectrum of cooperation initiatives.
Both countries, as members of OIC, endorse and support each other’s stance on multiple international forums.
Information technology is one of the areas where Ethiopia is looking to expand its bilateral relations with Pakistan.
Moreover, education is a key area of cooperation since Pakistani universities award scholarships to Ethiopian students to undertake medical and engineering studies in Pakistan.
COMSTECH, the OIC’s specialized committee on scientific and technological cooperation was established in 1981 and is headquartered in Islamabad.

The Islamabad office organizes conferences, streamlines and gathers research funds, and supports networking between the scientific community in the Muslim countries.
It also regularly partners with leading global universities to bring scientific solutions to the Muslim world.
An important recent initiative of COMSTECH involves a series of workshops and trainings focused on Artificial Intelligence and AI skills.
To reward best research and scientific collaborations, COMSTECH also organizes annual awards.
This year’s categories include Best Young Researcher, Excellence in Scientific Innovation, and Lifetime Achievement Award.
