Emergency Session of UNSC to be held on Friday


Kabul- 5 August 2021 (TDI): The United Nations Security Council, presided over by TS Tirumurti the permanent representative of India to the UN, will hold an emergency meeting on the escalation of violence in Afghanistan on Friday

Earlier this week, Haneef Atmar, the Foreign Minister of Afghanistan spoke to S Jaishankar, the Foreign Minister of India to brief him about the deteriorating security situation in Afghanistan and call for an emergency UNSC session to intimate International Community. On Wednesday, UNSC released a press statement condemning the recent attack on the UNAMA office in Herat. Also, the statement asserted that the Islamic Emirate in Afghanistan will not be accepted by UNSC members.

Indian permanent representative to UN, T S Tirumurti assumed the charge of rotating presidency in UNSC for the month of August on Sunday, 1 August 2021. India has concentrated its attention on areas of maritime security, counter-terrorism, and peacekeeping.
