Dili, 2 October 2021 (TDI): The Prime Minister of Timor-Leste had signed an agreement with the World Health Organization (WHO) on 29 September 2021 to eliminate TB from Timor-Leste. This aimed to strengthen the TB prevention campaign and raised awareness about the burden of this disease in Timor-Leste.

The Ministry of Health Staff of Timor-Leste expressed their views that we are excited to do work with the collaboration of WHO and its partners to make such progress in TB elimination and prevention. Timor-Leste’s prime minister is determined to put an end to this disease from our country because Timor-Leste has one of the highest TB prevalence rates in the WHO Southeast Asian region.

Furthermore, the PM of Timor-Leste reiterated the clear goals of the Timor-Leste government by 2025 that we would be empowered with national multiple health sectors which monitor progress in reaching end TB targets. In addition, our government would increase its budget and human resources allocation to improve the health sector for the elimination of this disease.
