New York, 29 October 2021 (TDI): The Minister Counsellor and the Permanent Mission of Malaysia to the United Nations, Mohd Hafiz Othman delivered a statement on the report of the International Court of Justice (ICJ); in New York on 28 October 2021.

Ambassador Hafiz Othman said that since the establishment of the International Court of Justice (ICJ); Malaysia has remained an integral part of the United Nations Charter. Hence, Malaysia recommends that ICJ should continuously operate in this way; despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. 

According to the Malaysian Ambassador, the delegation of Malaysia believes that the Advisory opinion of the Court has great weight and legal authority. Therefore, the Malaysian government has annually given the draft resolution on the legality of ‘threat or use of nuclear weapons’; including this year.

The Malaysian government emphasized that they support this draft resolution which will be scheduled to take action next week.Â
