Quito, 21 February 2022 (TDI): Ecuadorian President Guillermo Lasso met with the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia, Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir. This meeting took place at Carondelet Palace.

In this meeting, the two sides reviewed relations between the two countries and ways to develop them to broader levels in various fields. The topics that both officials discussed were diverse. For instance, they talked about the Green hydrogen, the oil future, investments, and trade between the Arab world and Latin America agendas. 

 

In addition, this meeting opens up new opportunities for both states. Indeed, President Guillermo Lasso and the diplomat Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir discussed cooperation in security, transfer of technology, and knowledge in agro-export. Furthermore, a possible free trade agreement in detail was taken into account.

Apart from President Lasso, Saudi Arabia Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Adel Al-Jubeir met with Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Juan Carlos Holguin in Quito. The Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Juan Carlos Holguin called this meeting a positive meeting. He said that both state authorities discussed various issues of bilateral cooperation between the two nations.

He further said that bilateral relations are based on mutual interest, and these will achieve by diplomacy. Ecuador has always taken benefit from diplomacy in this regard. Holguin used the term Diplomacy of Prosperity. 

Before this meeting, Al-Jubeir visited the Ecuadorian Institute of Diplomatic Studies. At the institute, he delivered a lecture in which he reviewed Saudi-Ecuadorian relations.  In addition, he emphasized the importance of advancing and pushing them to broader horizons.

At end of the meeting, Al-Jubeir said that the two sides exchanged views on several regional and international issues of common interest.

The Official Visits

The Trip to Ecuador of Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir is part of his tour to the South American continent. For instance, he visited Peru, Chile, Uruguay, and Paraguay before Ecuador. Al-Jubeir’s trip to South America is to present its Vision 2030 outlines. This vision allows a country to reduce its dependence on oil and diversify the economy.
