Phnom Penh, 1 November 2021 (TDI):  The Ministry of Post and Telecommunication of Cambodia announced that the country won the Global Digital Innovation Award. The award was given for ‘Stop Covid QR Code System’.

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) conferred the award. UNOSSC is in charge of telecommunication and digital technology.

According to the statement of the Ministry, the Kingdom of Cambodia has won an award in the field of telecommunications and digital technology, for the first time. It is a great achievement for a developing country like Cambodia. It proves that Cambodia has adequate capability to develop internationally recognized digital applications.

Cambodia will receive $20,000 because of this award. The country will use it to expand the technological system. All institutions, enterprises, and citizens in Cambodia are using the QR Code to curb the spread of Covid-19.

Cambodia will also participate in a training program organized by the ITU; to share the expertise with other countries. 250 institutions around the world will attend the training program. Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications will represent Cambodia.
