Dar, IAEA Chief Discuss Nuclear Energy Cooperation

Islamabad (TDI): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar met with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Mariano Grossi on Wednesday.

During the meeting, both talked about the importance of nuclear energy in climate change mitigation and adaptation.

They also discussed the financial needs to use nuclear energy better.

Both sides discussed the ongoing IAEA projects in Pakistan as well as global issues on the agenda of the IAEA.

Pakistan appreciates its cooperation with the IAEA and anticipates its continuous collaboration with the Agency, the Foreign Office said in a statement.

Pakistan and the IAEA have been working together since 1957.

Pakistan is one of the biggest beneficiaries of the IAEA Technical Cooperation Program which covers nuclear energy, food, health, agriculture, and water regulation and management.

Rafael Mariano’s visit strengthens the partnership between Pakistan and the IAEA for peaceful nuclear energy use.

He said in a post on X, “A vibrant nuclear program like Pakistan’s needs a strong, independent regulator like the Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority”.

He also held a meeting with the chairman of the Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority Faizan Mansoor and discussed the significant role of PNRA in the safety and security of Pakistan.

He expressed his gratitude for Pakistan’s cooperation with IAEA including hosting the convEx-2c exercise.
