ISLAMABAD (TDI): Pakistan has been elected as member of the Board of Governors (BoG) of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for the 21st time since joining the organization.
This achievement was announced during the 68th General Conference, highlighting Pakistan’s ongoing involvement in global nuclear governance.
Pakistan Becomes IAEA’s BoG Member
Additionally, the Nuclear Medicine, Oncology, and Radiotherapy Institute (NORI), managed by the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) in Islamabad, received awards for its contributions to cancer diagnosis and treatment.
IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi recognized NORI’s efforts in providing expertise to regional member states.
He commended the hospital’s state-of-the-art facilities during his visit to Pakistan last year.

PAEC Chairman Dr. Raja Ali Raza Anwar spoke at the event, expressing pride in Pakistan’s longstanding partnership with the IAEA.
He noted that cancer significantly impacts public health in the country, accounting for around 180,000 deaths annually.
