Lahore, 26 October 2021 (TDI): China-Pakistan Economic Corridor’s project Orange Line Metro Train (OLMT) has completed 1 year of its completion. OLMT has greatly helped the people of Lahore. It is the first urban railway project of Pakistan. The project commenced on October 25, 2020.

Lahore is the second biggest city of Pakistan and 18th largest of the world. It is also provincial capital of province Punjab, Pakistan. The city has population of about 12 million. This massive population faces hours of traffic. OLMT was established on one of the busiest route of Lahore. The project has helped a lot people with low prices of ticket. Since the start of the project 20 million riders has used it. The trains under OLMT has competed 90,000 trips so far covering 12 million kilometers. OLMT project has total of 26 stations and track spanning over 27 kilometers. After the project was launched, the journey of the entire route was reduced from 2.5 hours to only 45 minutes. It is the most advanced train system of Pakistan. In fact, it is also the most advanced urban train system in South Asia.
The OLMT project has not only enhanced the transport system of Lahore but it has also helped in creating employment opportunities in Lahore. It created a total of 7000 jobs during its construction project. Moreover, it created 1300 brand new and permanent jobs after the commencement of its operation. While it produced 2000 jobs in the departments of ticketing, security, cleaning etc.
After the completion of its one year of operation, the number of local employees has reached to 97%. Chinese experts have been training locals to make it a 100% local employees project. The project not only helped in creating employment opportunities and reducing transport problems but also helps in reducing environmental pollution. The OLMT uses electricity instead of fuel which makes it to achieve zero emission target.
China and Pakistan enjoy close relations. China has helped Pakistan in every field of life. CPEC, a multi billion dollars project has helped Pakistan to enhance its economy.
