Beijing, 26 September 2022 (TDI): At a special ceremony on September 25, 2022, the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) donated RMB 125 million in relief and reconstruction aid for Pakistan’s flood victims.

The ceremony was attended by Li Xikui; the Chairman of the China Friendship Foundation for Peace and Development (CFFPD), Ambassador Sha Zukang; President of the China-Pakistan Friendship Association, Lin Songtian; President of CPAFFC, and Sha Zukang.
Leaders of well-known businesses and charitable groups, members of the media, and top officials from the Pakistani Embassy all attended the event.
Senior government representatives from numerous provinces and cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing, Tianjin, Hubei, Ningxia, Inner Mongolia, and Xinjiang, among others, offered special expressions of support and compassion for Pakistan.
President of CPAFFC, Lin Songtian expressed his sorrow and sympathies to the lost families and said that China’s government and people have significantly aided Pakistan’s rescue and recovery efforts in the wake of devastating floods.
He claimed that China’s support for Pakistan was evidence of both countries’ close intercultural relations and special friendship.
President Lin Songtian emphasized that in addition to continued assistance, China would contribute to post-flood infrastructure development and post-flood rehabilitation in the afflicted areas.
Speaking at the event, the Ambassador of Pakistan to China, Moin ul Haq praised the CPAFFC and local Chinese governments and businesses for their prompt aid in supporting Pakistan’s ongoing relief efforts for flood victims.
He noted that this ceremony is just another illustration of China’s friendship and sympathy with the people of Pakistan, recalling how the two nations have consistently stood together in trying times.
Additionally, Ambassador Moin highlighted Pakistan’s steadfast willingness to expand its cooperation with China in green development, climate resilience, and disaster management.
He also asked the Chinese government to take a proactive role in Pakistan’s economic recovery during the post-flood phase.
Floods in Pakistan
Floods have claimed the lives of 1,569 individuals since June 14, 2022, in Pakistan. Heavy monsoon rains that were unusually heavy and glaciers that began to melt after a severe heat wave all contributed to the floods.

Since the floods in South Asia in 2017, the 2022 flood in Pakistan has caused the most fatalities worldwide and is regarded as the worst flood in the history of the nation. Due to the flooding, Pakistan proclaimed a state of emergency on August 25.
The country was “one-third” underwater by August 29, according to Pakistan’s minister of climate change, affecting 33 million people. The flooding is thought to have cost the Pakistani government $40 billion in losses.
