Council of Arab League hosts Ministerial Level Meeting

Cairo, 7 September 2022 (TDI): Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, Tuesday, chaired a meeting on the developments of the crisis with Iran at the 158th session of the Council of the League of Arab States.

The summit was being held at the ministerial level under the chairmanship of Libya. The Council of the League of Arab States was established under the Arab League charter which was signed on the 22nd of March 1945 by the representatives of the Arab countries.

The Council was established to consolidate the ties of Arab states and take joint Arab action in the face of common issues.

The ministerial-level sessions of the Council of the Arab League are held in March and September of each year to discuss any case relating to Joint Arab action.

The 158th session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level was chaired by Prince Faisal bin Farhan in Cairo.

Members of the Council stressed the importance of Arab solidarity, cooperation, and joint work to achieve the hopes and aspirations of the people of Arab countries.

The work of the 158th session of the Arab League Council at the ministerial level deals with the joint Arab action on various political, security, economic, legal, and social issues.

In the session, the ministerial committee discussed the developments of the crisis with Iran. The committee discussed the course of Arab relations with Iran. Moreover, the committee also discussed Iran’s role in the regional affairs of the Arab states.

Likewise, it also reviewed the reports submitted by several member states of the committee on Iranian interference in the internal affairs of the Arab countries.

In addition to that, a report by the General Secretariat of the Arab League on the clause of Iranian interference was also reviewed by the committee.

Moreover, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Jordan, Ayman Safadi, chaired a meeting of the Ministerial Committee on the Actions of the Israeli forces in the “occupied city of Jerusalem.

Prince Faisal Bin Farhan also participated in the Arab Ministerial Committee on Follow-up of “Turkish Interventions in the Internal Affairs of Arab Countries chaired by the Foreign Minister of Egypt, Sameh Shoukry.

Many states attended the 158th session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level, at the League’s General Secretariat in Cairo, Egypt.

Oman at the 158th session Council of the Arab League

Oman’s Foreign Minister, Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, headed the Sultanate’s delegation to meet. In his speech, Sayyid Badr referred to the central Arab issue, Palestine.

He stressed the importance of establishing a “Just solution for the Palestinian people by recognizing the independent State of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital, the 1967 borders, and its accession to full membership of the United Nations.”

The Minister also spoke of Oman’s aspiration for the return of Arab solidarity with the restoration of the Syrian Arab Republic to its seat in the League.

This must be done, he said, “based on the belief in the authentic Arab fundamentals that all countries are working to consolidate and strengthen ties in a bid to achieve ambitions and desired goals.”

The delegation accompanying the Foreign Minister included Abdullah Alrahbi, Oman’s Ambassador to Egypt and its permanent representative to the League of Arab States.

Moreover, Sheikh Faisal Almarhoon, Head of the Department of the Arab League of Arab States, and several Foreign Ministry officials were also present.

Qatar at the 158th session Council of the Arab League

The State of Qatar participated in the 158th session of the Arab League Council at the ministerial level.

The delegation of the State of Qatar was headed by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi.

Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi also participated in the meeting of the Arab Ministerial Committee in charge of international action to confront the illegal Israeli policies and measures in the occupied city of Jerusalem.

Notably, the Egyptian delegation headed by Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry, withdrew from the 158th session of the Council of the Arab League at the Foreign Ministerial level.

The withdrawal from the Arab League session came after the Foreign Minister of the Libyan outgoing government, Najla Mangoush, assumed the presidency of the session.
