Sharm El Sheikh, 11 November 2022 (TDI): COP27 Youth and Future Generation Day was observed to include young people in the dialogue, on 10 November.
One of the main goals of the COP27 Presidency is to guarantee that the voices of the young and future generations are heard.
With the first-ever Youth-led Climate Forum, Children and Youth Pavilion at COP, and Youth Envoy, COP27 breaks new ground. Young Conference of the Youth participants presents the Global Youth Statement, which highlights important policy concerns.
The day began with the thematic day and youth-led climate forum opening ceremony, which gathered senior policymakers and young delegates from the Conference of the Youth together (COY17).
Youth spoke for their main requests, focusing on the COY17-determined Action for Climate Empowerment, Adaptation and Resilience, and Accessible Finance.
Additionally, the health, diet, education, and future of young people are all significantly impacted by the effects of climate change.
According to COP27 President, Sameh Shoukry, “the decisions we make during the climate process also have the potential to have the greatest influence on young. To advance climate action, they should be seen as a natural ally and collaborator”.
Moreover, since the execution of climate agreements directly affects the future lives and livelihoods of young people, it is crucial to ensure that they are recognized and given a place at the table, said Shoukry.
Agenda of the Day
On Youth and Future Generation Day, several sessions were planned. The goal was to give policymakers and representatives of the generation a direct platform for dialogue.
Furthermore, youth participants emphasized the connection between climate change and young people’s exercise of their human rights during the various events and sessions.
