Bonn, 1 September 2022 (TDI): Mahmoud Mohieldin, a high-level COP27 champion and the World Bank Group’s Senior Vice President for the 2030 Development Agenda, UN Relations, and Partnerships, discussed his efforts to mobilize resources and funding for practical climate projects during Africa Climate Week.

This was shared by the official Twitter account of United Nations Climate Change.

Mahmoud Mohieldin, while addressing the conference, said, “We have done some good preparation for COP27 to do unprecedented matchmaking. So the idea here is basically to bring the supply of projects close to the supply of finance and assets.”

Furthermore, he also added that

“Unfortunately, I have seen it in the past myself that you get the finance people talking to each other and then the line ministers and those who are preparing projects in real economy, in the agricultural sector, in the water management, in the energy sector and in the overall infrastructure. We talk together but in an isolated room.”

Along these lines, Mohieldin continued,

“So these regional, economic partnerships that we are having with the COP27, with the champions to have these regional roundtables which have been really producing a very promising list, that could be start of building pipelines for investable and bankable projects.”
