Islamabad, 14 March 2023 (TDI): A “Workshop on Current Spectroscopic Methods and their Applications in Research” was jointly held between the University of Jordan’s chemistry department and COMSTECH from March 12–14.

COMSTECH is the Standing Committee for Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH) of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The following are the results of a survey conducted by the American Psychological Association.

This program provided attendees with the chance to receive practical instruction on cutting-edge spectroscopic equipment and computer software utilized in the fields of chemical and biological sciences.

Lectures that were followed by a discussion session boosted knowledge of contemporary spectroscopic techniques and encouraged collaboration between scientists from OIC nations.

Askar Mussinov, Assistant Secretary-General OIC, welcomed everyone to the three-day event. According to him, spectroscopy provides essential tools for examining the structure and operation of both biological macromolecules & tiny chemical substances.

He stated that with the contributions of famous researchers from various universities and R & D institutions, this event will contribute to the growth and enhancement of the competence in current spectroscopic techniques at a regional level.

He thanked COMSTECH and the University of Jordan for arranging an event on behalf of the OIC secretariat in Jeddah and pledged the full backing of the OIC secretariat to COMSTECH in the accomplishment of its goals.

The session was addressed by Professor Dr. Nathir Obeidat, the President of the University of Jordan, Professor Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General COMSTECH / Director ICCBS, and Major General Sajjad Ali Khan (Retd.), Ambassador, Embassy of the Islamic Republic Of Pakistan, Amman, Jordan.

Likewise, it was addressed by Professor Dr. Atta-ur-Rahman (FRS), President, Network of Academy of Sciences of Islamic Countries (NASIC), Professor Emeritus/Patron-In-Chief ICCBS, Professor Dr. Adnan Badran, Chair of the Board of Trustees of the University of Jordan, and Professor Dr. Azmi Mahafza, Minister of Education, Higher Education and Scientific Research.

The University of Jordan shared during the opening session that it has signed a contract with COMSTECH to join the COMSTECH Collaboration of Excellence (CCoE).

As resource people, spectroscopic experts from Germany, China, Greece, Pakistan, Jordan, and Egypt took part. Pioneers in the field whose work is enlightening many chemists and biologists globally were among these speakers.

The workshop was attended by researchers from Algeria, Pakistan, Jordan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Turkiye, the USA, Kenya, Palestine, and Kazakhstan.
