New York (TDI): Pakistan’s top military man, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, met with Saima Saleem, one of Pakistan’s most vocal representatives at the United Nations, in a meeting that focused on her work at the UN and her personal journey in international diplomacy.
Saima Saleem, who is visually impaired since birth, is known for her consistent efforts to present Pakistan’s stance at major global forums. She has spoken out on different issues, particularly those related to human rights.
She is one of the few diplomats from Pakistan who speak openly on sensitive issues, quoting facts and international law to back her points. Her eloquence, while making Pakistan’s case at the UN, has gone viral on multiple occasions.

Her calm and firm deliverance, even when facing tough opposition from Indian delegates, catches attention both at the UN and among general public.
In meeting with the COAS, she briefed the military chief on her recent engagements at the UN, including sessions where she countered what Pakistan describes as Indian disinformation campaigns.
She shared her experiences of dealing with diplomatic pressure and how she works with Pakistan’s mission to prepare strong responses based on law and ground realities.
COAS Munir expressed deep respect for her work and acknowledged her determination, which sends a strong message about inclusion and capability. She presented the military chief with her literary work as well.
Her whole journey, from being the first blind Pakistani woman to join foreign service to playing a central role in UN diplomacy, is a strong case study.
