CM Maryam Strengthens Ties with China in Climate, Healthcare

Beijing (TDI): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, who is on an official visit to China, spent a busy day on Monday, meeting with key Chinese officials and experts.

These meetings also saw the signing of a raft of agreements aimed at fostering joint activities in climate change, health and transport industries.

The day started with her visit to the Blue Tech Clean Air Alliance, where she met its Chairman, Mr. Xi Hongsheng. The two dignitaries exchanged views on innovative ways to alleviate climate change-induced air pollution problems.

Maryam explained to the Chinese group how her provincial government is responding to climate change. The chairman and his group commended the efforts of Punjab and were willing to support additional engagement.

An MoU was also signed between the Punjab Environment Department and the Blue Tech Clean Air Alliance to protect and improve the environmental conditions in Punjab.

CM Maryam also paid a visit to “Hi Jia” Medical Technology and met with its President, Dr Liu Fuliang.

The delegation provided Maryam with applied experiences of educated men in improving cancer treatment in the province. The Punjab government signed a MoU with the company to improve facilities for cancer treatment in the province.

Maryam provided insights into the first public sector ship Nawaz Sharif Cancer Hospital project in Pakistan and pledged to bring in new machinery and meth.

During her visit to She Ji Tan Hospital, Maryam was briefed on advanced healthcare systems and medical technologies.

She explored China’s employee and resident medical insurance systems and expressed interest in adopting similar approaches in Punjab. The two sides also discussed plans for telemedicine links between She Ji Tan Hospital and Punjab hospitals.

Maryam then toured Beijing’s Municipal Transport Commission, where she was briefed by Deputy Director General Shang Wang Yu on the city’s smart and eco-friendly transport systems.

The discussions included the implementation of electric vehicle infrastructure and sustainable transport solutions in Punjab. Maryam praised Beijing’s green and smart transport systems, emphasizing the need for a similar integrated network in Punjab’s cities.

She announced plans to expand Lahore’s metro train network and introduce eco-friendly public transport systems across Punjab. She also acknowledged China’s support in developing transport projects like the Lahore Orange Line Metro and Metro Bus systems.

Maryam Nawaz said her team was keen on learning from China’s advanced systems to enhance Punjab’s policies for climate, healthcare, and transport.
