Beijing, 25 October 2021 (TDI): China’s President Xi Jinping attended a conference to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the restoration of the lawful seat of the People’s Republic of China in the United Nations (UN). The conference was held in the Great Hall of the People, Beijing. He delivered a keynote speech on the occasion to underscore the challenges faced by China and the world, respectively.

China’s Steady Development

During his speech, Xi Jinping accentuated that China has witnessed peaceful and steady development in the past five decades; ever since its lawful restoration. Over the years China has stayed committed to the path of reform and opening up. China has played an integral role in global development.

Commitment to Multilateralism

The Chinese President enunciated that his country has and will stay committed to the path of multilateralism. It will always safeguard the international order. China aims to work in harmony with other countries under the principles of joint contribution, consultation, multilateralism, shared benefits, and common values of humanity.

Restoration to the Lawful Seat

Moreover, highlighted that on this day i.e. 25th October, fifty years ago the 26th Session of the General Assembly of the UN adopted Resolution 2758. As per the Resolution, the decision was made to reinstate all rights of the People’s Republic of China in the UN. The decision was supported by an overwhelming majority.  Consequently, the representatives of the Government of the People’s Republic of China were recognized; as the only legitimate representatives to the UN.

The propitious occasion proved to be a prelude to a successful epoch for China. The lawful restoration of China to the UN was because of joint efforts of peace-loving countries that support justice.

President Xi said that the successful rise of China from a country with relatively low productivity to the second-largest economy in the world symbolizes its commitment to peaceful development. For that, the credit goes to the Chinese Nation as they have succeeded to build a prosperous society on the vast land of China. It is their victory against poverty that has secured this momentous triumph by eradicating absolute poverty.

Furthermore, China has made all efforts to work for the welfare of humanity. The Chinese people have proved to be instrumental in the growth projectile of the country with their strong will and untiring spirit. For fifty years the nation has been working tirelessly to guarantee the development of China as well as humanity.

Resultantly, China has embarked on a new expedition towards building an entirely modern socialist country, introducing favorable prospects for the rejuvenation of its people.

The President underscored that the Chinese people have always stood in solidarity with the people around the world. They uphold international equity and justice by contributing to world peace and development. China has staunchly followed the policy of peace, fairness, and justice. It opposes power politics and hegemony.

It is evident from the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) as well as its response during Covid-19, that China advocates and supports inclusivity. China has relentlessly worked against the Covid-19 and helped other countries as well.

For the past 50 years, the people of China have maintained the sanctity of the UN by practicing multilateralism. China’s cooperation with the United Nations has deepened progressively. China has persistently contributed as a permanent member of the UN Security Council; by staying true to the principles of the UN Charter. It has also actively advocated for a political settlement of disputes through peaceful means.

Maintenance of Peace and Progress

Xi Jinping emphasized in his address that the world of today is going through an accelerated change. It is paramount to maintain peace and progress. It is the responsibility of the current world leaders to choose cooperation over confrontation, openness over seclusion, and mutual benefit over zero-sum games. He stressed that it is the responsibility of the world leaders to stand on the right side of history by promoting an inclusive community with a shared future. Economic and social development should be the end goal for mutual benefit.

Global Cooperation

Last but not the least, the Chinese President said that cooperation should be increased globally, to counter the challenges imposed by Climate Change. The states should respect the authority of the UN to practice multilateralism. He said that China will endeavor to maintain world peace and peaceful development.
