Chinese President talks with Prime Minister of New Zealand

Beijing, 6 November 2021 (TDI): Chinese President Xi Jinping talked with the Prime Minister of New Zealand Jacinda Adern on a phone call. The conversation between them took place on 5 November 2021.

They talked about the bilateral relations of the two states. They emphasized expanding cooperation to strengthen the relations between the two states. Chinese President urged the two countries to encourage their youth to enhance bilateral exchanges.

Chinese President emphasized bilateral relations

Xi Jinping acknowledged the efforts of the two states in strengthening communication to overcome political differences. He stressed that the two states should look for common ground with mutual interests to cooperate. He stated that the China-New Zealand cooperation is not only in the interest of the two states but also of the region.

Nea Zealand’s participation in BRI

Chinese President also welcomed New Zealand’s participation in the Chinese project of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). He said China looks forward to expanding cooperation with New Zealand in the areas of vaccine research, science and technology, food safety, climate change, education, clean energy, and many others.

Multilateralism key for Regional Development

Xi also emphasized multilateralism to promote regional economic integration. He stated that multilateralism is the safest way for regional development and prosperity. States can achieve by cooperating with others what they can not achieve unilaterally, he added.

APEC Conference in New Zealand

Chinese President also expressed support for New Zealand for hosting the 2021 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC). He wished good luck to New Zealand’s Prime Minister for the upcoming summit of APEC in New Zealand.

New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Adern thanked the Chinese President for his support for the APEC Conference. She said that she looks forward to the attendance of the Chinese President at the APEC Informal Economic Leaders’ Retreat in the coming week.

NZ waits for Chinese President’s help to tackle COVID-19

Jacinda said that she will be waiting for the Chinese President’s insightful views to tackle the Covid-19 pandemic. She said that the leaders in the conference will be delighted to know how China successfully tackle the pandemic.

Bilateral cooperation win-win situation

New Zealand’s Prime Minister further stated cooperation with China is in the vast interests of her country. She emphasized bilateral cooperation as a win-win situation for both countries.

Nea Zealand supports One-China policy

The Prime Minister of New Zealand also expressed her country’s support for the one-China policy. She stated that New Zealand believes in one China rather than two China. Therefore, New Zealand will continue to support and strengthen its relations with the People’s Republic of China.

Fourth China International Import Expo

She also expressed support for the Fourth China International Import Expo. She said that New Zealand’s business community is participating in the event taking place in China. New Zealand looks forward to expanding its economic cooperation with China.

New Zealand’s Prime Minister also wished good luck to the Chinese President for the Winter Beijing Olympics. The two countries will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. They established diplomatic relations on 22 December 1972. The two countries aim to further strengthen their bilateral relations.
