Samarkand, 14 September 2022 (TDI): The President of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping arrived in Uzbekistan, on a state visit, today.
The President of China is visiting the country at the invitation of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev. Upon arrival, the Chinese leader was welcomed by the head of Uzbekistan at Samarkand international airport.
The President of China was welcomed with the performances of national songs and dances. He will be participating in main events slated for September 15. On the same day, the high-level bilateral dialogue will also take place.
It is pertinent to note that as earlier revealed, the Chinese President will attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s (SCO) regular meeting of the Council of Heads of State (CHS) on September 16.
SCO Summit 2022
The annual summit of the SCO Heads of State Council in 2022 will be held in Samarkand on September 15-16. On September 17, 2021, Uzbekistan took up the organization’s chairmanship from Tajikistan.
According to the Russian news agency TASS, Uzbekistan’s President, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, detailed the chairmanship’s aims and tasks.
These include measures to increase the organization’s potential and power, secure regional peace, and stability, alleviate poverty, and assure food security.
Furthermore, he advocated the construction of an intraregional trade plan that will include initiatives to eliminate trade obstacles, align technical rules, and digitize customs operations.

Xi Jinping’s visit to Kazakhstan
Prior to arriving in Uzbekistan, the President of China visited Kazakhstan. During his stay in the Central Asian Country, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and an honor guard greeted Xi on the airport tarmac in Nur-Sultan on Wednesday.
His visit highlighted the significance China has placed on emphasizing its role as a regional leader in the face of tensions with the United States, Japan, and India over issues such as technology, security, human rights, and territory.
According to Tokayev’s government, the two leaders will discuss energy and commerce. Kazakhstan is a major oil and gas producer with China as a major customer.
