Chinese Premier Li Keqiang meets UNGA President

Beijing, 29 November 2021 (TDI): Chinese Premier Li Keqiang met with the 76th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) President Abdulla Shahid.

The two sides discussed international affairs. They debated on the global challenges. They agreed to strengthen cooperation to deal with unprecedented challenges such as climate change and the Coronavirus pandemic. The meeting was held virtually on 26 November 2021.

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang congratulated Abdulla Shahid on his election as the President of the UNGA 76. He emphasized that the United Nations is the authoritative body over the international system. It should enhance the procedure of just and fair reforms. Li Keqiang highlighted that China is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its rightful seat in the UN. He stated that being the permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, China will always promote multilateralism in the world.

China is committed to working with the international community to promote international law. He highlighted that China stands with the UN in fair distribution of the Covid19 vaccines in the world. He said that China is also devoted to enhancing cooperation on the UN 2030 Agenda for sustainable development.

President Abdulla appreciated the Chinese role in the pandemic. He thanked China for providing the vaccines to the world especially to the developing states. The UNGA President also admired the Chinese support for multilateralism. He agreed with the Chinese vision of multilateralism to fight international problems.

The UNGA President stated that since the restoration of the Chinese rightful seat in the United Nations, it has always abided by the principles of the Charter of the UN. He stated that China has become a partner of the UN in making a world better for mankind. The two sides agreed to strengthen the cooperation to fight the challenges of the world.

China has become one of the major partners of the UN since its restoration of the rightful seat in the UN in 1971. It has been helping the UN to promote international law, multilateralism, democracy, and the UN Charter principles. China has been a major actor in international affairs which increases the importance of the UNGA Presidents’ visit to China. It will help the two sides to strengthen their cooperation.
