Beijing, 17 May 2022 (TDI): State Councilor and Foreign Minister of China, Wang Yi held a virtual meeting with the new Foreign Minister of the Republic of Korea (ROK), Park Jin.
While talking with his counterpart, Wang Yi remarked that close neighbors are preferable to distant relatives. China and the Republic of Korea are inextricably linked as neighbors and partners.
China always takes a strategic and broad view of the Republic of Korea and China-ROK ties. Bilateral relations have progressed rapidly since the establishment of diplomatic ties 30 years ago.
Which is benefiting both peoples and contributes to regional peace and prosperity. The ROK’s successive governments and all political parties have worked towards mutual goals and interests.
China and the Republic of Korea have traditionally respected each other’s basic interests, cultural traditions, and customs. Wang Yi urged his counterpart to stick to a win-win strategy.
He said that the commerce of China has expanded by 50 times in the last 30 years, with mutual investment exceeding $100 billion. Through pragmatic cooperation the two sides have achieved common development and prosperity, concluded Wang Yi.
Foreign Minister Park Jin said that President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory message as soon as President Yoon Suk-yeol was elected.
He then appointed Vice President Wang Qishan as a special representative to attend the President’s inauguration ceremony.
The South Korean Foreign Minister stated that his country values the development of its relations with China and is prepared to forge mature bilateral ties with China.
He added that Korea has always followed the premise of one-China, and is ready to use the 30th anniversary of the two countries to deepen diplomatic relations.
Moroever, ROK urges China to see it as a new beginning point for maintaining high-level contacts, and deepening economic cooperation. The two sides also discussed recent developments on the Korean Peninsula as well as international matters of mutual interest.
