Suva, 31 May 2022 (TDI): President of Fiji Ratu Wiliame Katonivere met with Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi in the President’s Office in Suva on May 30, 2022.

Wiliame Katonivere expressed his heartfelt greetings to President Xi Jinping and complimented the Communist Party of China (CPC) on its centennial anniversary last year.

The President of Fiji praised President Xi Jinping’s remarkable leadership and China’s outstanding achievements.

Wiliame Katonivere expressed gratitude to China for its long-term selfless support and assistance, which has allowed Fiji to speed up economic development and raise people’s living conditions.

President Xi Jinping’s cordial wishes were delivered to President Katonivere by Wang Yi, who stated that the CPC is dedicated to the Chinese nation’s long-term glory and that the centennial is in its prime.

China has established a development path suited to its national conditions under President Xi Jinping’s leadership and has accomplished the two marvels of long-term social stability and rapid economic development.

China has accomplished the first century’s aim of eradicating absolute poverty and is well on its way to achieving the second centennial goal.

The 1.4 billion Chinese people, who make up one-fifth of the world’s population, will contribute substantially to human development and progress if they achieve common prosperity and modernisation.

China’s development and rejuvenation, Wang Yi emphasised, is a common incredible accomplishment of underdeveloped countries and strengthens the forces for world peace.

It means China will have more resources and will fight harder on the international scene to protect the legitimate rights and interests of underdeveloped nations.

As a result, China will keep trusting and supporting other developing nations in order to enhance solidarity and achieve shared development, concluded Wang Yi.

History of Fiji-China Relationship

Fiji and China have a rich history of amicable relations, and Fiji takes pride in its close ties with China. Fiji will remain committed to the one-China principle, deepening cooperation in a variety of areas in order to achieve shared growth and prosperity.

Furthermore, According to Wang Yi, bilateral relations between China and Fiji have faced numerous risks and obstacles since their formation 47 years ago.

Whatever the world and regional scenario, China will continue to pursue a friendly policy toward Fiji, assisting the country in developing prosperity and strength and playing a greater role in regional and international affairs.

Wang Yi says that, China is prepared to work with Fiji on more livelihood projects, implement the Juncao cooperation that President Xi Jinping is particularly interested in, and provide more real advantages to the Fijian people.
