Chinese Foreign Minister meets African officials

Dakar, 29 November 2021 (TDI): Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with the African officials ahead of the 8th Ministerial Conference of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). The Chinese Foreign Minister discussed issues of mutual concern with the African officials.

The conference is going to be commenced from today, 29 November 2021, and will end tomorrow, 30 November 2021. Senegal’s capital Dakar is going to host the conference. Ahead of the important conference, the Chinese Foreign Minister met with the African officials in Dakar, on Sunday, 28 November 2021.

Chinese Foreign Minister met with the Senegalese President

Wang Yi before the conference met with the President of Senegal Macky Sall. Chinese Foreign Minister highlighted that China-Africa cooperation is one of the biggest examples of international cooperation. He stated that Africa is a place for cooperation rather than competition for the major countries. China is a sincere partner of Africa and is committed to its social and economic development, he added.

Senegalese President Macky Sall expressed gratitude to China for its selfless help to the African countries. He stated that Chinese success has a lot of lessons for the African developing counties. He stressed that unjust international order should be changed so that African destiny can be in its own hands. The Senegalese President hoped that China will continue to play a leading role in the development of Africa.

Chinese Foreign Minister met with the Senegalese counterpart

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi ahead of the 8th Ministerial Conference of FOCAC also met with the Senegalese counterpart Aissata Tall Sall. The Chinese Foreign Minister appreciated Senegal for supporting Chinese issues of interest. He stated that China will continue to provide Senegal with anti-pandemic help. China will further send vaccines to Senegal to deal with the Coronavirus pandemic, he added.

The Senegalese Foreign Minister stated that Senegal is committed to the One-China policy. She stated that Senegal supports China in the matters of its sovereignty and territorial integrity under international law. She also welcomed Chinese companies to invest in Senegal.

 

Chinese Foreign Minister met with Foreign Minister of Sierra Leone

On his busy day on Sunday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi also met with the Foreign Minister of Sierra Leone David Francis. The two counterparts discussed bilateral relations. Wang Yi stated that the two countries support sum-sum cooperation instead of zero-sum cooperation. He stated that the two countries are committed to promoting fairness and equality in the world instead of unilateral actions and bullying in the world. He also appreciated the role of Sierra Leone in promoting peace and multilateralism in the world.

The Foreign Minister of Sierra Leone David Francis stated that Sierra Leone acknowledges a greater Chinese role in international affairs for promoting peaceful development. He also appreciated the Chinese role in the anti-pandemic fight by providing vaccines and other medical supplies to the world. He stated Sierra Leone supports the policy of non-interference in the internal affairs of other states. Therefore, it supports the One-China principle. He said that Sierra Leone looks forward to enhancing its cooperation with China to get benefit from win-win cooperation.

Chinese Foreign Minister met with the Zimbabwean Counterpart

Chinese Foreign Minister also met with Zimbabwean Foreign Minister Frederick Shava. He highlighted that the two countries enjoy friendly relations. He said that China is committed to assisting Zimbabwe in its development. China will continue to create new opportunities for win-win cooperation by exploring the Zimbabwean development path further.

Frederick Shava stated that Zimbabwe appreciated the Chinese vision of peaceful development in the world. He expressed gratitude to the Chinese help in Zimbabwean economic transformations. He said that Zimbabwe looks forward to expanding its cooperation with China.

Chinese Foreign Minister’s meetings with the African officials before the 8th Ministerial Conference of the FOCAC are of great importance. It will help to deepen the mutual trust between them. It will also help them to set a mutual consensus in the 8th Ministerial Conference of the FOCAC.
