Beijing, 15 March 2023 (TDI): The first session of the 14th National People’s Congress (NPC) of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) concluded on Monday morning at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, with leading officials of state institutions elected and endorsed.

In addition, the decision to amend the Legislation Law of the PRC was also approved by vote and will take effect from March 15. For immediate action, President Xi signed a presidential order to make the decision public.

During the session, President Xi Jinping delivered a speech and emphasized the importance of rallying Chinese people of all ethnic groups around the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee.

He further gave guidance on his thoughts on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, and fully implemented the guiding principles of the Party’s 20th National Congress.

Also, he expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him by all the deputies and the Chinese people of all ethnic groups and vowed to faithfully fulfill his duties and never fail to live up to the great trust of the deputies and the people.

The session approved the national economic and social development plan for 2023 and also passed resolutions on central and local budgets.

Xi highlighted the need to complete building China into a great modern socialist country and advance national rejuvenation on all fronts.

Moreover, he emphasized the importance of high-quality development, putting the people first, and ensuring national security.

Xi also stressed the need to fully, faithfully, and resolutely implement the policy of “one country, two systems” for Hong Kong and Macao.

Also, the resolution on the Report on the Work of the Government was approved by vote, with Deputies affirming the State Council’s work in 2022 and over the past five years.

They agreed to the overall requirements, main objectives, policy directions, and major tasks proposed in the report for economic and social development in 2023.

Overall, the meeting was attended by party and state leaders, with 2,947 out of 2,977 deputies present, reaching a quorum.

The session demonstrated China’s commitment to building a modern socialist country in all respects and advancing national rejuvenation on all fronts.
