Beijing, 4 March 2023 (TDI): On Monday, the Spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Mao Ning, urged the US to stop interfering in China’s Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), emphasizing that it is an internal affair of China.

Recently, the US Department of State issued an annual report on Hong Kong named “2023 Hong Kong Policy Act Report” about the actions of China in Hong Kong.

In response to the issuance of the report, Mao dismissed the report and said that the report lacked transparency and disregarded the facts, and made irresponsible remarks that could potentially damage China’s image worldwide.

Further, she added that the report was purely based on baseless accusations against China’s Central Government.

Therefore, she restated China’s commitment to safeguarding its sovereignty and emphasized that China would not tolerate any external interference in its internal affairs. As such, Hong Kong is regarded as a special administrative region of China.

After dismissing the allegations, Mao said, “The Chinese government acts in strict accordance with the Constitution and the Basic Law and is firm in fully and faithfully implementing the policy of ‘One Country, Two Systems’.”

Therefore, China strongly deplored and rejected the accusations made by the US Department of State. In addition, she enunciated that the autonomy of Hong Kong was always ensured with all the rights and freedom being protected per the law.

Notably, China has also been taking measures for the implementation of legislation to safeguard the national security of HKSAR & further improve its electoral system. In essence, the measures are aimed at safeguarding the peace and stability of the region.
