New York, 29 October 2021 (TDI): The Chinese deputy permanent representative to the United Nations (UN) Geng Shuang urged the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for promoting the rule of international law in the world. He also urged it to safeguard multilateralism in the world.

The Chinese deputy permanent representative to the UN addressed the UN on ICJ’s annual report. He stated that ICJ is the main functioning organ of the UN.
Therefore, it has more responsibilities to promote cooperation in the world. He further added that the international community accepted ICJ as the only legitimate authority in the world. Thus, it should work for safeguarding multilateralism and international law to protect its prestige.
He stressed, “”peace and development are our common cause; fairness and justice are our common ideals, and democracy and freedom are our common pursuit.” Therefore, the United Nations should defend unity and promote the common values of mankind.
He emphasized the role of ICJ in peacemaking by elaborating that 154 countries have recognized the ICJ. This shows the trust of the states in ICJ. He further stated that the proceedings of ICJ promote the norms of international law in the world.
Chinese envoy highlighted the role of China in promoting international law in the world. He emphasized that China since its restoration of the lawful seat in the United Nations has promoted democratization and rule of law in the world.
China has been committed to its policy of multilateralism in the world. China believes in the policy of non-interference in the internal affairs of other states.
It is aiming to establish a global community of shared values. Therefore, international law and multilateralism is the safest way to create a global community based on shared interests.
