Riyadh, 10 December 2022 (TDI): Mahmoud Abbas, the President of Palestine, and the President of China, Xi Jinping met on December 8 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

During the meeting, President Xi emphasized how much the two peoples valued their inter-country connection. It is pertinent to note that the two sides have constantly had each other’s backs throughout the past 50 years and more.

China has always strongly supported the fair cause of the Palestinian people to restore the rightful rights and interests of their nation.

China will keep pushing for a quick, fair, and long-lasting resolution to the Palestinian issue. President Xi stressed the necessity for the two sides to establish suitable measures for celebrating the 35th anniversary of China-Palestine relations next year.

A tourism cooperation agreement was signed between the two nations. In addition, free trade talks between China and Palestine also took place.

Moreover, during the talks the second meeting of the Chinese-Palestinian Joint Committee for Economic, Trade, and Technical Cooperation was also observed.

In order to advance China-Arab relations, the Global Development Initiative (GDI), and the Global Security Initiative (GSI), China will increase communication and cooperation with Palestine.

Furthermore, China praises Palestine’s active participation to promote collective cooperation between China and Arab states.

Statements by President Mahmoud Abbas

The Palestinian people, according to President Abbas, are extremely proud of their cordial ties with the Chinese people. China is Palestine’s true and reliable friend.

It has consistently stood up for the Palestinian people’s rightful cause by providing Palestine with unconditional support on all occasions. These areas include the political, economic, moral, and other fronts.

Additionally, all Palestinians have deep sympathies for the Chinese. The views taken by China on the world stage are just and fair, and its proposals and initiatives are beneficial and helpful.

Moreover, Abbas highlighted Palestine’s persistent commitment to the “one-China” principle. They also support China’s fair stance on issues related to Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Xinjiang.

During the talks, it was said that Palestine strongly supports the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and actively participates in it. The President also said that Palestine is prepared to collaborate with China to further advance bilateral ties in all fields.

While concluding, the President said that Palestine was looking forward to the success of the first China-Arab States Summit.
