Moscow, 24 December 2021 (TDI): The President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin earlier stated that China and Russia trust each other. He praised the advantageous ties between Russia and China.

The statement was made by President Putin during his annual press conference. Moreover, he highlighted that he has good personal relations with the President of China, Xi Jinping.

Vladimir Putin noted that Asia has emerged as the region with the fastest economic growth in the world, and China is leading in both regional as well as global economic development. Also, China is the biggest trade partner of Russia.

The Russian President enunciated that the two allies closely cooperate in multifarious fields ranging from military, security to aerospace, high-tech, and culture. Cooperation between the two stems from mutual trust. Besides, a collaboration between the two allies will not only benefit themselves but the entire world as well.

On the United States’ (US) action of boycotting the Winter Olympics hosted by China, the Russian President said that Russia is against politicizing the sports event and it is “unacceptable and wrong” to instigate a diplomatic boycott of the 2022 Winter Olympics.

He further stated that such a “boycott” is clearly a maneuver to contain the rise of China. President Putin pointed out that the boycott was a political and tactical move that aims to politicize sports along with suppressing “competitors.”

Furthermore, China has already emerged as the largest economy with regards to purchasing power parity (PPP). Ergo, It is imperative that the US understands that China cannot be stopped from becoming the world’s leading economy.

Earlier this month, President Xi Jinping and President Vladimir Putin also held a virtual conference as well, to discuss issues of mutual interest. It is also imperative to note here that the US hosted a Summit on Democracy, in which China and Russia were conspicuously not invited.
