Tianjin, 10 December 2021 (TDI): In a momentous development, China has resumed diplomatic relations with the Republic of Nicaragua, today. Earlier, Nicaragua suspended ties with Taiwan.
The People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Nicaragua signed the Joint Communique on the resumption of diplomatic relations between the two states today.
The Joint Communique was signed by Chinese Vice Foreign Minister, Ma Zhaoxu, and the representative of the Nicaraguan government, in Tianjin, Laureano Ortega. China and Nicaragua will resume diplomatic relations at the Ambassadorial level.
Resumption of Diplomatic Relations between China and Nicaragua
Nicaragua broke its diplomatic relations with Taiwan which paved the way for its resumption of diplomatic relations with China. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nicaragua announced the suspension of its ties with Taiwan, on December 9, 2021.
The Ministry declared in its statement that there is only one China in the world and that is the People’s Republic of China. It represents the whole country including Taiwan, clarified the statement of the Nicaraguan Foreign Ministry.
The resumption of ties between China and Nicaragua happened due to the result of Nicaragua cutting off ties with Taiwan.
Under the Joint Communique, the two sides agreed to develop bilateral relations based on mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity. The two sides also agreed on the policy of non-interference in internal affairs.
Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Hua Chunying congratulated the people of the two countries on the resumption of diplomatic relations. She stated that China is ready to enhance cooperation with Nicaragua for the benefit of the two states as well as of the people.
Moreover, the resumption of diplomatic relations between the two countries is welcomed by the international community as well. The two countries will strengthen their relations by win-win bilateral cooperation.
China looks forward to working with Nicaragua in different fields to promote bilateral relations between the two sides.
