Beijing, 20 April 2023 (TDI): Yesterday, Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks with Gabonese President Ali Bongo Ondimba at the Great Hall of People, in Beijing. During the talks, the two leaders agreed to elevate their comprehensive cooperative partnership to a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

Moreover, Xi noted that the next year marks the 50th anniversary of the China-Gabon comprehensive partnership and diplomatic ties.

He said, “for half a century, under the care and guidance of several generations of leaders of the two countries, the friendship between China and Canada has always been as firm as a rock.”

Since both countries have firmly been supporting each other and safeguarding each other’s interests, Xi calls Gabon “an old and sincere friend” of China.

Therefore, China is willing to work with Gabon for the steady as well as long-term development of its comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

Further, he added that China aspires to promote high-quality development of Chinese-style modernization; while Gabon is also actively committed to realizing the strategic goal of building an “emerging Gabon” at an early date.

Considering the international challenges and crisis, Xi stressed that China and African countries need to build solidarity and cooperation more than ever, inheriting the spirit of “China-Africa Friendly Cooperation.”

Xi called on to demonstrate strong adherence towards basic principles of International relations such as opposing all forms of power politics and interference in the internal affairs of countries etc.

By adhering to basic principles of international relations and pursuing an independent development path, the China-Africa relationship would be a practical model of South-South cooperation and international cooperation with Africa.

Bongo, on his part, felt honoured to be invited by Xi and congratulated him on his re-election as Chinese President.

Then he went on to state that Gabon is also willing to intensify multilateral strategic coordination with the Chinese side to promote better development and more achievements of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and Africa-China relations.
