China emphasizes Joint Statement of Troika on Counterterrorism

Beijing, 17 November (TDI): Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Zhao Lijian emphasized the Joint Statement of Troika underlining counterterrorism.

A Troika plus meeting was held in Islamabad on 11 November 2021 on the recent situation of Afghanistan. The meeting ended with a Joint Statement that called on the international community to take concrete actions to help Afghanistan in its dire humanitarian situation. It also urged the Taliban to provide humanitarian access to social workers. The participants also urged the Taliban to take solid actions against the terrorist organizations operating from Afghanistan.

Zhao highlighted that the four parties in the meeting Troika plus condemned the recent terrorist attacks in Afghanistan. The parties also urged the Taliban to dismantle their ties with all the terrorist groups. They also urged the Taliban to have an operation clean-up to eliminate all the terrorist groups operating in Afghanistan.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson urged the Afghan Taliban to take action in their commitments to make Afghanistan free of international terrorist organizations such as the East Turkmenistan Islamic Movement (ETIM) and the Islamic State (IS). He said that it is not just in the common interests of the Troika plus parties but also in the interest of Afghanistan. It is the shared interest of the international community, he added.

Pakistan hosted the Troika Plus meeting in Islamabad on Afghanistan. China, the United States, and Russia attended the meeting. The extended Troika also met with the Taliban representatives on the sidelines of the meeting. The participants discussed the dire humanitarian situation in Afghanistan. They expressed serious concerns over the vulnerable situation of the Afghans.
