China donates vaccines to UN peacekeepers

Beijing, 18 September 2021 (TDI): The People’s Republic of China has donated a batch of 300,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccines to the United Nations (UN).

At the online ceremony held on Friday, Ambassador Geng Shuang, the deputy permanent representative of the People’s Republic of China to the UN, and Christian Francis Saunders, the Assistant Secretary-General for supply chain management of Department of Operational Support (DOS) UN, \on behalf of the Chinese government and the UN, signed the handover certificates for China’s donation of 300,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines to the UN peacekeepers.

Representatives from China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, China International Development Cooperation Agency and the vaccine producer Sino-pharm attended the ceremony.

Vice-chairman of China International Development Cooperation Agency held the opinion that the peacekeepers have played a vital role in maintaining peace, and the vaccines will further help to reach UN goals.

Francis Saunders thanked the Chinese government for the assistance on the behalf of the UN secretary-general.
