China-Tanzania Relations
China-Tanzania relations date back to the 1960s when Tanzania campaigned for Beijing to regain its United Nations Security Council “veto power”. China was still a developing country at that time. The ties between the two states further deepened with the construction of the Tanzania Zambia Railway (Tazara) in the early 1970s.
Both countries helped each other and collaborate for mutual benefit. In recent years, China and Tanzania have increasingly collaborated for economic and social development. In the last 30 years, the Foreign Direct Investments (FDIs) from China to Tanzania reached 7.5 billion US dollars for Tanzania’s Mainland and 142.9 million US dollars for Tanzania’s Isles.
China is one of the leading investors in Tanzania and the FDIs have created almost 200,000 jobs in Tanzania. Likewise, Tanzania ships many agricultural products to China which include cassava, soya beans, and fodders along with cow horns and some fish products.
