Beijing, 10 January 2023 (TDI): The President of China, Xi Jinping held a video meeting with the President of the Czech Republic, Miloš Zeman, on January 9, 2023.
Xi Jinping pointed out that he and President Zeman have met and held talks many times over the past ten years. It was underlined that both sides had exchanged in-depth views on bilateral relations and governance experience.
Moreover, both nations have upgraded the China-Czech relationship to a strategic partnership. The two leaders jointly promoted bilateral economic and trade relations and personnel exchanges.
In this regard, Czech exports to China have nearly tripled. In 2019, the number of Chinese tourists to the Czech Republic increased by 250 percent from 2013.
Relations between China and the Czech Republic
China values the development of China-Czech relations and regards the Czech Republic as an important strategic partner. It is ready to work with the Czech side to steady bilateral relations growth and bring more benefits to the two peoples.
Furthermore, Xi Jinping stressed that China is promoting the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation on all fronts. This is done through a Chinese path to modernization.
In addition, Xi highlighted that the two sides should be firm in their respect for each other’s core interests and major concerns. They should enhance cultural and people-to-people exchanges.

Likewise, China will implement more practical measures to promote cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European Countries (CEEC). China’s policy on Europe remains stable.
Additionally, Xi Jinping expressed his hope that the Czech side will continue to promote China-CEEC cooperation actively. They will also sustain the sound development of China-Europe relations.
Statements made by President Miloš Zeman
President Zeman underlined that he entirely agrees with President Xi Jinping’s remarks on Czech-China relations. He added that he cherishes the friendship with President Xi Jinping.
During the call, it was made clear that the Czech side is ready to make joint efforts with the Chinese side to strengthen cooperation.
Both sides will work together in the economy, trade, and investment. They will also make efforts to overcome the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The President underscored that the Czech side is ready to play an active role in developing Europe-China relations.
