China concerns landing of Helicopter carrying Iranian President

Beijing, 20 May 2024 (TDI): A spokesman for China’s foreign ministry stated on Monday that China is extremely concerned about the “hard landing” of the helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and hopes that the president and everyone else on board are safe.

The spokesperson confirmed that China is closely observing the situation and is dedicated to providing comprehensive assistance and support to Iran’s rescue operations.

In addition, this remark was made before the confirmation of the news on the deaths of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, who were both killed in a helicopter accident in the East Azerbaijan region of Iran.

Moreover, rescue workers were able to find the crash site after conducting a significant search that lasted for several hours, even though the weather conditions were difficult.

Furthermore, along with other officials and bodyguards, the helicopter also transported the governor of the East Azerbaijan province in Iran, according to the reports.

On Monday morning, Turkish authorities published drone footage that they believed showed a fire in a remote area that they assumed to be the remains of a helicopter.

The fire is located approximately 20 kilometers (12 miles) south of the Azerbaijan-Iranian border, on the slope of a high mountain.

The IRNA published footage early Monday depicting the accident location, situated on the opposite side of a steep valley among a verdant mountain range. The soldiers, conversing in the indigenous Azeri language, said, “There it is, we have discovered it.”
