Beijing, 5 April 2022 (TDI): China is celebrating the Qingming Festival 2022. Qingming Festival is also called Tomb Sweeping Day. When translated to English it literally means ‘Pure Brightness’ Festival.
People around China are commemorating the Festival to pay homage to their ancestors. The President of China, Xi Jinping emphasized the significance of remembering heroes, carrying forward their spirit, & honoring revolutionary martyrs on Tomb Sweeping Day.

Zhang Heqing, the Chinese Counsellor & Director tweeted that Qingming is one of China’s 24 solar terms. However, it is also an occasion for Chinese people to honor lost family members.
He shared a video and stated that Qingming Festival is observed in early April when the temperature begins to rise and the rainfall increases.

The Chinese Embassy to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) presented flowers at the China-DPRK Friendship Tower to remember the martyrs of the Chinese People’s Volunteers, at Qingming Festival.
Hua Chunying, Spokesperson at the Chinese Foreign Ministry and Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs through her official Twitter handle shared that the Qingming Festival or the Tomb Sweeping Day is a day to honor ancestors and heroes in China.

Chinese officials in Serbia also paid tribute to the Chinese martyrs killed in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) target bombing of the then Chinese Embassy.
The Embassy of China was located in Belgrade, which was, at that time, the capital city of the former Yugoslavia. The targeted bombing by NATO was carried out in May 1999.

Cao Zhongming, Chinese Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium also joined the festivities to pay homage to the Chinese heroes. He shared through a tweet about the Festival.

Qingming Festival
Qingming Festival is a traditional Chinese festival. It is an important day for Chinese people to go and sweep tombs to commemorate their ancestors.
Tomb-sweeping on this day is one of the most noteworthy and widespread activities to show regard to ancestors. The festival usually falls on April 4 or 5.
The public holiday in China is from April 3 to April 5, 2022. The festival was listed as one of the first national intangible cultural heritage events on May 20, 2006.
This Qingming Festival day falls on the first day of the fifth solar term of the traditional Chinese lunisolar calendar.
