China-Cambodian bilateral dialogue enhances relations

Beijing, 25 May 2024 (TDI): On Friday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Sok Chenda Sophea to further China-Cambodian bilateral dialogue.

Wang, a member of the CPC Central Committee’s Political Bureau, reaffirmed China’s steadfast support for Cambodia’s pursuit of a development trajectory consistent with its unique national conditions.

In addition, Wang reaffirmed that China fully supports Cambodia’s endeavors to uphold stability, promote development, improve the welfare of its populace, and take on a more prominent role in regional and international affairs.

Additionally, Wang affirmed China’s readiness to collaborate with Cambodia in preserving the nation’s robust tradition of unity and support, as well as in implementing the strategic agreement forged by the leaders of both countries.

Also to steer the development of the China-Cambodia community towards a shared future, enhancing strategic trust, fostering mutually advantageous cooperation, seizing opportunities for development and rejuvenation, and collectively striving for modernization, he added.

According to Wang, China is eager to support more Chinese businesses investing in Cambodia and to exchange best practices for developing special economic zones.

Wang stated that it is also prepared to assist Cambodia in attaining green and low-carbon development, quickening the country’s industrialization, and increasing its imports of commercially viable agricultural goods from Cambodia.

Wang emphasized that China looks forward to working with Cambodia and other nations in the region to grasp the mainstream of regional development and cooperation, eliminate interference and sabotage by outside forces, jointly maintain regional peace and stability, and protect the common and legitimate interests of all nations.

Furthermore, China also looks forward to strengthening coordination and cooperation with Cambodia to build a closer Lancang-Mekong community with a shared future.

According to Sok Chenda Sophea, Cambodia values its relations with China and regards its joint successes as highly accomplishments. Cambodia is a strong supporter of China’s efforts to protect its fundamental interests and upholds the One-China concept.

The two parties decided to develop stronger cooperation in the areas of agriculture, infrastructure development, connectivity, digital economy, artificial intelligence, human resources development, and special economic zones.

They also decided to expedite the implementation of the Diamond Hexagon cooperation framework and support the construction of the Fish and Rice Corridor and the Industrial Development Corridor.

The two countries will use the 2024 People-to-People Exchange Year as a chance to strengthen their collaboration in the areas of education, tourism, youth, local communities, and vocational skill development. They also hope to advance the development of the China-Cambodia community with a shared future to a new height. This will enhance the China-Cambodian bilateral dialogue.

The two nations have reached an agreement to enhance communication and coordination over regional and international matters. They also aim to further develop cooperation between China and ASEAN, as well as the Lancang-Mekong region.
