China-Brunei celebrates 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties

Beijing, 30 September 2021 (TDI): Thursday’s exchange of congratulatory messages between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Brunei’s Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah marked the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations as both have been establishing relations since September 30, 1991.

Xi Jinping in his message expressed appreciation for China-Brunei’s stable and rapid development over the past 30 years and noted that their political mutual trust has been increasing and their cooperation in different fields has also been improving. Two countries have shown a great example of cooperation between small and large countries based on equality and mutual benefits. 

President Xi emphasized both countries’ mutual support in fighting COVID-19 and called it a new chapter of friendship in bilateral ties. Moreover, Xi Jinping expressed the readiness of China to reach out to work with Hassanal to solidify strategic communication and strengthen bilateral cooperation in combating COVID-19 and construction of Belt and Road that will bring more benefits to both countries. 

Hassanal called China a key partner in its efforts to defeat COVID-19 and expressed gratitude for its support to Brunei in response to the pandemic. Brunei is open to deepening its strategic cooperation with China, he stated.
