China Qualify for Asian Hockey Champions Trophy Final

MOQI (TDI): China stunned Pakistan 2-0 in shootouts to qualify for the final of the Asian Hockey Champions Trophy 2024 at the Moqi Hockey Training Base in Hulunbuir, China on Monday.

This is China’s first final entry in the tournament’s history. Pakistan, on the other hand, will play against Korea for bronze medal.

Chinese goalkeeper, Caiyu Wang, was the hero of the show as he did not let any of the five penalty corner attempts by Pakistan during the shootout. Benhai Chen and Chanliang Lin scored for China, while, China’s lone goal during the match was scored by Yuanlin Lu in the 18th minute.

Unlike their last encounter with Pakistan, where they lost 5-1, China were in control of the game from the word go. They took a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute and maintained it until the fourth quarter.

Although Pakistan made several circle entries but failed to convert. The match ended in a 1-1 draw in the stipulated time and was decided on shootouts.

Overall, Pakistan had a fine run in the tournament. They started the tournament with two back to back draws against Malaysia (2-2), and Korea (2-2). Then, the Green Shirts won the next two games against Japan (2-1), and China (5-1) before losing the final pool match against India (2-1).
