Throughout the ages, religious and spiritual beliefs have played an important role in the history of humanity, shaping cultures, societies, and even human values and behavior. However, religious differences have also led to conflicts, tensions, and wars around the world.
The world’s many different religions have the potential to act as peacemakers, strengthening ties between different communities because of their profound influence on people’s lives.
Consequently, cooperation between religious leaders has the potential to have a major impact on the transformation of human mentality toward world peace. It is in this context that the “Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions” emerged in Kazakhstan.
This pioneering Congress was organized and convened for the first time on September 23 and 24, 2003, by the first President Nursultan Nazarbayev.
It takes place every three years at the Palace of Peace and Reconciliation and has gained global recognition over the years.
Kazakhstan, a country with rich ethnical and religious diversity, saw this event as an opportunity to demonstrate to the world that it is possible for different religious beliefs to coexist peacefully.
What gives the Congress its innovative character is its ability to bring together religious leaders from various parts of the world, bringing with them diverse beliefs, cultures, and perspectives.
The event provides a favorable space for an open and collaborative dialogue, where these leaders can share their views on global issues, explore commonalities between different religions, and work together to find solutions that promote peace.
