Carney Has Won Canadians Trust Yet Again

Ottawa (TDI): In the federal snap elections, Canadian votes have once again chosen Mark Carney and his Liberal Party. With this victory, Carney has won the forth mandate, which was how Canada deals with US tariffs and how it realigns itself in the face of a bitter neighbor.

After assuming the PM office, Carney soon announced snap election and dissolved the Parliament. He and his party wanted to be sure of the public trust in Carney and his cabinet, as the country now heads toward a decisive policy on trade and tariffs with the US.

Having won the mandate, Carney will not need to be sworn in again. However, he may choose to make changes to his cabinet.

Politically and economically, this is an important time for the country, as its largest trading partner is hell-bent on making trade costlier and difficult.

Historically, Canada has benefitted from its geographical proximity to the US but Trump changed that. In the only telephonic conversation between Mark Carney and Donald Trump, both leaders agreed that after the election, they will start negotiating “a new economic and security relationship.”

The negotiation phase is expected to be tough as President Trump has threatened Canada with annexation, making it the 51st state of the US.

The election result, however, has clearly demonstrated Canadians’ will to be led by Carney in these important negotiations.

Carney’s main rival in the election race was Conservative candidate, Pierre Poilievre. Since the official results have not been announced yet by Elections Canada, it is hard to say if Liberals have won a majority in the Parliament.

At the time of the election call, last month in March, the Liberals had 152 seats and the Conservatives had 120. The rest of the seats were occupied by the Bloc Québécois (33) and the New Democrat Party (24), and the Green Party (Two).
