Canadian Prime Minister engages in talks with Egyptian President

Ottawa, 18 October 2023 (TDI): On October 16, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke with the President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi through a phone call to discuss the ongoing Israel and Palestine conflict.

Prime Minister Trudeau strongly condemned the violent terrorist attacks carried out by Hamas against Israel. He reaffirmed Canada’s support for Israel’s right to self-defense, in accordance with international law.

In addition, He emphasized the importance of upholding international law, including humanitarian law, both in Gaza and elsewhere.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Trudeau reiterated his support of a two-state solution and the rights of both Israelis and Palestinians to live in peace, security, dignity, and without fear.

Moreover, both leaders shared their concerns regarding the severe blockade in Gaza and the deteriorating living conditions for its residents.

Similarly, both leaders concurred on the significance of providing humanitarian aid.

Prime Minister Trudeau emphasized Canada’s request for unrestricted access for humanitarian purposes and the establishment of a humanitarian corridor to ensure the delivery of essential assistance to Gaza’s civilian population.

Moreover, He highlighted Canada’s role as a major contributor to humanitarian and development aid in the occupied territories and its commitment of an initial $10 million to support the provision of necessities to those affected by the crisis in Gaza, the West Bank, and Israel.

Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau conveyed his gratitude for President el-Sisi’s active involvement and significant diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions in the crisis and ensure humanitarian aid reaches Gaza.

He also expressed appreciation to the President for his support in assisting Canadians impacted by the conflict.

Prime Minister Trudeau mentioned that Canada will maintain a close collaboration with regional allies and partners, such as Egypt, to facilitate the quick and safe departure of affected Canadians from Gaza, the West Bank, and Israel.

Lastly, both leaders agreed to stay in contact as the situation develops.
