Cambodia-China further strengthens diplomatic relations

Phnom Penh, 19 July (TDI): On Wednesday, Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni (R) met with China’s new ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wenbin in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, July 17, 2024.

King Norodom Sihamoni stated that China is Cambodia’s eternal ally. He also stated that the long-lasting friendship between the two countries would be cemented even more as the two countries collaborated in a variety of fields, which would result in more fruitful consequences.

The monarch made the remarks at the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh while accepting the credentials presented by China’s new ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wenbin.

Sihamoni conveyed his profound admiration for China’s extraordinary achievements in the field of development and offered his heartfelt gratitude to the Chinese government and people for their unwavering and invaluable support and assistance to Cambodia.

The Belt and Road Initiative, which is being offered by China, is supported by Cambodia, and Cambodia clearly advocates for the One-China policy.

Wang noted that China-Cambodia relations have moved into a new era of establishing a community with a shared future that is of superior quality, high-level, and high-standard. This is due to the fact that the leaders of both countries have provided constructive direction.

During the discussion, the ambassador reaffirmed his dedication to working together with Cambodians hailing from a diverse range of backgrounds in order to preserve and fortify the friendship that exists between two states. He also emphasized the importance of making concerted efforts to strengthen and improve this connection.

Wang landed in Cambodia on July 5th to commence his new position.

The ambassador added that he will work with Cambodian people from all walks of life to carry forward the baton of China-Cambodia friendship and make every effort to consolidate and deepen China-Cambodia friendship.

Historically, in 2016 Premier Li Keqiang met with King Norodom Sihamoni of Cambodia, who was in China for a state visit. During his visit, he stated, “China is Cambodia’s strongest ally. Cambodia is committed to continuously strengthening the long-standing relationship between Cambodia and China. We are prepared to enhance communication and cooperation with China in all areas, to achieve more significant outcomes in Cambodia-China ties and ASEAN-China relations”.
