Cambodia celebrates King’s Coronation Day

Phnom Penh, 29 October 2022 (TDI): The Coronation Day of the King of Cambodia, was celebrated on 29 October 2022 on the occasion of the 18th anniversary.

Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni was made King in 2004 after being chosen by a nine-member throne council.

Cambodia commemorates this day as King Norodom Sihamoni Coronation following the late King-Father Norodom Sihanouk’s abdication.

This day is a public holiday in the civil and private sectors to mark the anniversary of the Coronation Day of the King.

Hun Sen, Prime Minister of Cambodia, Samdech Vibol Sena Pheakdei Say Chhum, President of the Senate, and Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin, President of the National Assembly congratulate the monarch of Cambodia.

Moreover, they wished him good health and longevity. Many other high-ranked government officials also gave their respect to King Norodom Sihamoni on his 18th Coronation Anniversary.

Hun Manet, Commander of the Royal Cambodian Army also wished for the king that “may the goddess of the kingdom of Cambodia bless him and grant him all blessing and happiness.”

States officials expressed gratitude to the king under whom Cambodia attained peace, stability, and development in all domains.

ASEAN on the occasion said, the king always showed devotion and contribution to peace, unity, and socio-economic development of the kingdom and people of Cambodia.

King Norodom Sihamoni

King Norodom ascended the throne on 29 October 2002, after the abdication of his Father Late-king Norodom Sihanouk due to ill health.

Nine-member throne council elected him to become the next king. This makes Kingdom one of the few elected monarchies in the world. To be the King, the only stipulation is that candidate must be 30 years old and a part of the royal family.

The King’s full title is “His Merciful Excellent Majesty Protector, King Norodom Sihamoni, who united the nation, religion, realm, and people of the Khmer state, the great king who is supported by Buddha and Indra, protector of independence, unification, and peace, King of Cambodia, the Great King in the Kingdom of Cambodia”.
