Glasgow, 8 November 2021 (TDI): Sum Thy, Director of Climate Change Department of the Ministry of Environment of Cambodia, is representing his country in the COP26. The 26th Summit of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26) is in Glasgow, Scotland.

Roundtable of the Asia Water Council
Whilst attending the Climate Change High-Level Roundtable of the Asia Water Council Special Session of COP26; he said that Cambodia is working on a long-term development strategy on carbon neutrality. Being vulnerable to Climate Change, the country intends to call for additional funding and technical support.
Cambodia’s 10-year National Strategic Plan for Climate Change
The Special Session was attended by representatives of Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Mongolia, South Korea, the K-Water organization, and the Asia Development Bank. Speaking to them, Sum Thy pointed out that Cambodia has developed a 10-year National Strategic Plan for Climate Change. He submitted the plan to the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
Susceptibility to Climate Change

Cambodia’s agriculture, health, water resources, infrastructure, education, and industrial production are extremely susceptible to Climate Change. That is why the country has devised a long-term development strategy for carbon neutrality.
Reduction of Greenhouse Gas Emissions
Sum Thy enunciated that his country aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Cambodia expects that COP26 will make the industrialized nations reduce greenhouse gas emissions and keep temperature increases below 1.5 degrees Celsius. The developed countries also must arrange for $100 billion to fulfill their pledge.
Aside from that, Cambodia will no longer allow new coal-fired power plant development projects to mitigate climate change.
