Islamabad, 12 August 2022 (TDI): The British High Commission staff in Pakistan, Chevening alumni, and Islamabad Capital Development Authority personnel planted 75 Pakistani trees, to commemorate 75 years of UK-Pakistan relations.
The trees were planted in the Shakarparian National Park. This activity is a complement to the British Pakistan Foundation and Pakistan High Commission’s extensive, year-long tree-planting campaign in the UK.
This initiative, known as “the Legacy Project,” was started to honor the accomplishments of British Pakistanis during the previous 75 years. There will be a total of 7,500 trees planted.
On July 18, 2022, “The Legacy Project” was introduced at the Pakistan High Commission in London as a way to honor the accomplishments of British Pakistanis over the course of the last 75 years in the UK.

The British Pakistan Foundation (BPF), in cooperation with the National Trust, the World Congress of Overseas Pakistanis (WCOP), The Pakistan Society, and a number of other British Pakistani organizations, is working on the Project.
As a result of significant occasions like the country’s independence anniversary and the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, the UK, and Pakistani relationship has improved significantly this year.
Acting British High Commissioner Andrew Dalgleish made the following remarks on the occasion: “Right now the UK and Pakistan are collaborating to tackle some of the world’s most pressing challenges from driving forward action on climate change to improving gender equality.
I know that we will continue to do so over the next seventy-five years. Happy Birthday, Happy Independence Day, Azm-e-aali Shaan, Shaad rahe Pakistan!”
It is pertinent to note that, the UK’s top priority and a major area of cooperation with Pakistan is combating climate change.
Pakistan is experiencing some of the harshest effects of climate change, but through its NDC pledges made prior to COP26, it demonstrated to the world that high ambition is attainable.
At COP26, the UK committed to providing financial aid to Pakistan to aid in the battle against climate change, encourage more environmentally friendly water use, and open up climate investment.
Through its Race to Zero effort, the UK also assisted 31 prominent Pakistani companies in making a commitment to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.
Moreover, the UK has been leading international action and support to adapt to the effects of climate change, which are already having an impact on lives, livelihoods, and natural habitats all over the world, as co-hosts of COP26 (together with Italy).
The Race to Resilience has more than 2,000 enterprises, investors, regions, cities, and other non-state actors as members, and 35 nations have joined the Adaptation Action Coalition.
The Risk-Informed Early Action Partnership includes more than 40 nations and organizations that have made the commitment to protect 1 billion people from disaster by 2025.
Pakistan attended the COP26, and Prime Minister Boris Johnson praised Pakistan for its ambitious national target, which should function as a guide for future climate action.
International Climate Finance (ICF) has provided the UK Government’s Department for Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) with a £10.8 million technical support programme called the Climate Finance Accelerator (CFA).
The CFA is operating in eight nations (Colombia, Egypt, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, South Africa, and Turkey), and each one is trying to build a pipeline of bankable, low-carbon projects that is sustainable and long-term.
The CFA is a component of the UK’s initiatives to support global climate action, allowing access to financing and assisting governments in meeting climate commitments under the Paris Agreement.
Pakistan is a recipient nation as well and needs to utilize these monies in the fight against climate change.
