Beijing (TDI): Collaboration with China within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative is crucial for advancing Pakistan’s veterinary technology sharing, knowledge exchange, and best practices in different fields, including vaccine development, production, and quality control, Afifa Shajia, Education Attach at the Embassy of Pakistan in China, said on Monday.
She made these remarks during the opening ceremony of an advanced workshop on veterinary drug and vaccine technology transfer for BRI nations, organized from December 20 to 31 in Beijing.
The workshop, chaired by Prof. He Cheng from the College of Veterinary Medicine at China Agricultural University, aims to develop a coordinated response among BRI nations to secure livestock health and industry stability.

“The workshop explores the livestock industry’s needs in BRI nations, discuss the potential for Chinese veterinary drugs, vaccines, and production technologies, and examine veterinary vaccine and drug regulations across China and BRI nations to improve regulatory alignment,” said Prof Cheng.
Key Topics
Key topics covered during the workshop include setting up of a sustainable veterinary medicine and vaccine network among BRI nations, exchanging and promoting technology transfer in veterinary drugs, vaccines, and diagnostics.
Participants also discussed understanding animal epidemic diseases, improving control measures, market trends, contributing to the animal surveillance network, and collaborating to detect the prevalence of leading animal diseases as well as reduce cross-border infections through training programs and key-lab alliances.

Moreover, participants will visit biotechnology enterprises in Beijing and Inner Mongolia for interactions and exchanges.
Shajia stressed that joint research and development is another important area requiring immediate attention.
“Pakistan is meticulously working on infrastructure development, and we seek cooperation for upgrading its laboratories and establishing modern production facilities within the country. By tapping into Chinese resources and expertise, Pakistan stands to considerably enhance its livestock sector,” she said.
The workshop, sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China and arranged by China Agricultural University and the China Veterinary Medicine Association, attracts nearly eighty government representatives, experts, entrepreneurs and scholars from China, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Iran, Cambodia, and Russia.
