Brazilian gymnast becomes first woman to win gold medal for the country in artistic gymnastics

Rebeca Andrade, a 22-year old Brazilian gymnast won the women’s vault gold medal for artistic gymnastics. She debuted with a Cheng vault in qualifying rounds, but her difficult two-and-a-half twisting vault was her winning grace. She is the sole winner of the only two Olympic medals Brazil has gotten so far, in women’s gymnastics. Her determination and hard work have paid off in the form of sweet success.
